Biography
“A constant thread throughout my work is a fascination with pattern, rhythm, and surface.”
I am a painter, printmaker, and designer with a full-time studio practice rooted in central Illinois. For over 30 years, I have pursued a multidisciplinary art career that includes public art commissions, private collections, and a robust studio output of paintings, linoleum block prints, monoprints, and mixed media works.
I earned a BFA in Painting from the University of Illinois and an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have lived and worked in Illinois, Arizona, and Washington state—experiences that continue to influence my work with their distinct cultural and environmental textures.
My creative process is fueled by experimentation and intuition. In my large abstract paintings, I begin with little more than a blank canvas and a size in mind, allowing each composition to evolve through color, mark-making, and surface texture. My smaller linocut prints, by contrast, feature strong silhouettes and organic textures, often inspired by plants, insects, and birds—subjects that lend themselves well to the physicality of carving and printing.
A constant thread throughout my work is a fascination with pattern, rhythm, and surface. These elements often overlap across media, and in recent years, I have blended my practices by layering hand-carved linocuts onto painted surfaces, creating mixed-media works with a rich, tactile presence.
Public art plays a central role in my practice. I have completed numerous commissions for medical facilities, corporate spaces, and academic settings. In these projects, I work closely with clients to develop artwork that complements the architecture and enhances the environment. Whether it's a mural, painting, or dimensional installation, my goal is to create pieces that elevate the experience of a space—bringing energy, warmth, and a sense of place.
